Gramófono/Gramophone

Volvemos a estar AQUÍ!! En esta segunda entrada hemos decidido mostraros otra pieza que forma parte de nuestro salón, se trata de nuestro gramófono! Este gramófono lo consiguió mi padre hace unos años y su principal desperfecto era que estaba lleno de carcoma. Por tanto, lo primero que hicimos fue tratar de eliminarla y, a continuación, encerar la madera.

We are here again! In this second entry we decided to show you another piece which is part of our living room. It deals with our gramophone! My father got it some years ago and its main damage was that the wood was full of woodworm. So the first step was to remove the woodworm and, after, to polish the wood.

Aunque parezca que hayamos pintado la base, con dos tonos de marrón, lo que ocurre es que está fabricado con dos tipos de madera distinta. Para darle un punto más alegre y que llame la atención, pintamos la trompa con un color plata que resalta con la madera. Así, también conseguimos diferenciar nuestro gramófono del resto ya que la mayoría tienen la trompa dorada.
Although it seems that we painted the base, with two shades of brown, which occurs actually is that it has been built with two types of wood. For brighting up we painted the gramophone horn with  silver which stands out from wood colour. In this way, we get a different gramophone since most of them have golden horns. 


Además, tenemos un pequeña colección de discos de pizarra y de cajitas de agujas.

Also, we have a small collection of slate records and metal needle boxes.

Ahhh...!! que se me olvidaba!! el gramófono funciona tan bien como lo hacía en su época!!

Ahh...!! I was forgetting it!! The gramophone works as well as it did in its time!

Nuestro Piano-Bar

Hola a todos!!! Hemos decidido inaugurar nuestro blog con la pieza que más sorprende a nuestros invitados. Se trata de nuestro Piano-Bar. Este piano nos lo regalaron hace unos cuantos años ya que a mis padres les encanta la restauración.  Aunque estaba hecho una ruina lo que nos llamó la atención fue que era de Caoba y el teclado de Marfil!!

Hi everyone! we decided to open our blog with the piece which guests value the most. It deals with our Piano-Bar. This piano was a present some years ago since my parents love restoring old staff. Although it was in a very bad condition, we realized that it was made with Mahogany and the keyboard with Ivory!!

A pesar de que la maquinaria no funcionaba y que alguna parte estaba destrozada  decidimos restaurarlo. En un primer momento se pensó en utilizar el piano como un mueble decorativo, sin más, pero a mis padres se les ocurrió la genial idea, al menos para mi, de transformarlo en un Piano-Bar.

Even though the mechanism didn't work and some parts were destroyed, we decided to restore it. At first, we thought about using it as a piece of decorative furniture but my parents had the great idea of transforming it into a Piano-Bar.

Así pues, tuvimos que quitar toda la parte interior del piano y empezar a diseñar las distintas secciones para poner las copas y las botellas.

So we had to hollow out the inside part of the piano and to start designing the different sections to keep glasses and bottles.

Además, se vació también la parte inferior del piano con lo que ganamos un buen espacio para guardar más botellas, creando así una pequeña bodega.

Also, we hollowed out the piano bottom part with which we obtained a big place to keep more bottles, creating then a small winery.

A parte del uso que le hemos dado nosotros, también hemos visto fotos de gente que ha convertido su piano en una pequeña biblioteca y, sinceramente, queda muy bien! 

Pianos can have other uses different from our Piano-Bar. We saw pictures of people using their old piano as a library and, sincerely, it looks very nice!

En ambos casos, el piano queda perfecto en el salón logrando ese punto original y chic que estamos buscando! 

In both cases, the Piano suits perfectly in the living room and we get that chic focal point we are looking for!
